The Double Duchy.


The first pairing of a Hall and a Castle on a main line railtour ran took place on Saturday 7th April 2001,when 4936 Kinlet Hall and 5029 Nunney Castle powered the 1Z36 04:50 Birmingham International to Penzance Double Duchy tour forward from Taunton. The photographs below show the pair as they head south through Devon.


Top: With the Langstone rock providing the backdrop, 4936 and 5029 power along the sea wall at Dawlish on a beautiful spring morning at 09:30.


Bottom: After the water stop at Newton Abbot, 4936 and 5029 had to tackle the Devon banks. This view at Aller Junction shows the pair storming up the lower slopes of Dainton bank.
